There are two approaches to home extensions that are currently popular in Perth. The first is to go for contrast and build an extension that is stylistically different from the rest of the home. This is said to be the “modern” approach by many. The second, the most popular and the approach we prefer is the seamless transition.
We feel that many builders push “modern” home extensions because they lack the expertise to create a seamless transition between the addition and the new home. While we can provide that option if the client prefers it, most of our clients opt for a home extension that integrates perfectly into their current home. There are two approaches to the seamless transition.
Remodel Plus Extension
If your current home is “too old” or you don’t really like it anymore, combining remodeling with a home extension is the way to go. Instead of making the extension look like your current home, you are updating your current home to look like the extension. This is almost like having a new home built from scratch to your specifications, except that you will be using the foundation and structure that already exists, saving thousands of dollars. It looks like an entirely new home on the inside when we are finished.
This technique works well for ground floor extensions and for second storey additions. We have provided plenty of both in the Perth area.
Matching Extension
If you are satisfied with your current home’s “look” and you just need more space, we will match the extension to your home to create the seamless transition. This is a matter of finding similar materials and building the extension to look like it was built at the same time as the rest of the home. It can be as simple as adding a family room and an alfresco living area.
