It’s no secret that home renovations are “hot” in Perth and across Australia. One look at how many home improvement and property flipping shows are on TV will confirm that Australians love to renovate. In 2013, in the face of an all-time high in renovation and property development TV shows, Newspoll Market and Research conducted a poll of 300 Australians across a national sample, aged 25-44. Here are a few of the trends they uncovered.
Results of the Home Renovation Poll
Only 5.2% said that they would never renovate, even if money wasn’t a factor. 1.2% said they didn’t know. That means 93.6% of those polled said they would renovate periodically. The most common answer was 4-5 years, chosen by 28.6% of respondents. Every 5-10 years was the next most popular at 20.9%. 13.9% said they would renovate every year and 14.9% said they would renovate every two years.
Believe it or not, of the “every single year” category, there were twice as many women as men who gave that answer. Households who made more than $90,000 per year were more likely to answer “every 4-5 years” while those making less than $50,000 per year would renovate every two years. The obvious conclusion here is that those who are making more money are more satisfied with their current homes.
What It Means to You
Our experience providing home renovations in the Perth area has shown us that people love to renovate for a number of reasons. Most people just want more space so they can enjoy their lives more. With housing market the way it is, moving up to a larger home can be expensive. In addition, there is the hassle of selling your old home, buying a new home and moving your family and all of your possessions.
