Class oozes as soon as one walks into this stunning extension to this period bungalow. With the fall of the land, and the existing upper floor balcony restricting the ground floor roof heights, the thought of designing a seamless extension to work within these parameters was daunting.
Next Level Extensions overcome this issue with a fluid design that terraced the floor levels in a clever manner to the open plan living area. The original kitchen was converted into a bathroom and storage area, and then the existing meals was used as a lobby / landing area to step down into an open plan reading nook, hallway and laundry. This level was designed so as not to undermine the existing residence.
From the reading nook there are feature stairs running down into the open plan family, meals and kitchen area. This area integrates very well with the reading nook, as they are separated by glass balustrade and feature steps. The open plan area is large and north facing to take in views of the new pool area which is either accessed via the reading nook or the new Al Fresco. Traffic flow is great, and all the spaces are used to their maximum potential. The ceilings are high to relate to the existing bungalow. As a result of the terraced floor levels, the roof was designed to avoid the existing rear facing balcony on the existing upper floor.
The front facade was also given some tender loving care, with a new double carport and store room works. The roof was re pitched over the store to tie into the carport in a seamless manner, and the roof lines and feature gables were designed to by sympathetic with the original home. The porch and front facade were also rendered to tie the whole project together. The outcome is a beautiful extension, to a period bungalow that ticks all the boxes.
